Val Udai extends elegantly up to the steep slopes of the Catinaccio, before flowing into the silent and lush Val di Dona. This wild route meanders boldly beneath the spectacular sheer walls of the Zocol, and in some sections, makes use of metal cables to assist with the steepest and most rugged passages. Along the way, you will be surprised by the enchanting green clearings that suddenly open up at the end of the winding paths, and you cannot help but admire the majestic Pis waterfalls.

On the southern side of the Sassolungo Group, between the majestic Catinaccio and the suggestive Sella Group, today there is an astonishing high-altitude walk that was once just a simple path used by shepherds to cross the mountains. This scenic trail was created at the beginning of the 20th century thanks to the efforts of the local branch of the Alpine Club, at the request of King Friedrich August von Sachsen, a hiking enthusiast who spent his summer months in Siusi from 1904 to 1914. The route winds at the foot of the majestic Sassopiatto, crossing a landscape characterized by steep rocks, lush green meadows, a variety of flora and offering spectacular views of the majestic Marmolada. This high altitude walk is a tribute to the natural beauty of the Dolomites and the commitment of the Alpine pioneers in creating an unforgettable experience for mountain lovers.

Val di Dona is a corner of peace and beauty hidden in the Val di Fassa, adjacent to the more famous Val Duron. Located at an altitude of 2100 metres, at the foot of the majestic Catinaccio, this valley was once a place dedicated to mountain pastures and sheep farming for the inhabitants of Mazzin. This isolated valley, with its tranquil and peaceful atmosphere, is dotted with charming wooden huts and offers breathtaking views of some of the most iconic peaks of the Dolomites, including Marmolada, Monzoni and Sassolungo. Although reaching it requires a bit of effort, with a route that climbs from the valley floor to this enchanting mountain pasture at high altitude, the extraordinary beauty of being in a place that seems to be out of time will repay every effort.

Starting from the Col Rodella cable car in Campitello di Fassa, the circular tour passes through the high route of King Federico Augusto, the Pertini refuge, Rifugio Sassopiatto. One of the most beautiful Dolomite paths not to be missed in Val di Fassa.

Sassolungo: the Sassolungo Group rises majestically between the Sella massif and the Catinaccio, taking on a round and imposing shape. Its highest peak, Sassolungo, rises to an altitude of 3,181 meters above sea level, giving its name to the entire mountain group. This mountain, together with its summit towards the south-west, constitutes almost half of the entire extent of the group. This mountain massif, once part of an ancient coral system, is popular in both summer and winter. The Sassolungo and Sasso Piatto are renowned destinations for excursions and highly suggestive via ferrata routes, among which the Via Ferrata Oskar Schuster and the Friedrich August path stand out. Furthermore, it is possible to reach the Sassolungo crest at 2,681 meters above sea level via a comfortable cable car starting from Passo Sella. From here, you can undertake the evocative Sassolungo Tour, a breathtaking experience amidst mountain landscapes of extraordinary beauty.

Sassopiatto: Sassopiatto emerges as the peak that acts as a natural divider between the suggestive Val Gardena and the picturesque Val di Fassa. This mountain, with its almost 3000 meters of altitude, offers a spectacular view of the nearby Sassolungo, offering breathtaking views. The normal route up to Sassopiatto is particularly popular as it does not present any significant technical difficulty, making it very popular with hikers. This ascent develops in two distinct parts: in the first part, through green meadows, you follow the easy flat Friedrich-August path, while in the second part you face rocky terrain with a constant slope that leads to the summit. The excursion may appear relatively monotonous in the first phase, but progressively transforms into a fulfilling and undoubtedly rewarding experience in the second part. The beauty of the landscape and the panorama that opens up once you reach the top amply repay the effort of the ascent.
